Meet our School Counselor
My name is Michelle Prater, and I am the full-time school counselor here at SPMS. I work with all students in 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade. The 2023-2024 school year is my 5th year here at South Paulding Middle School, but I have been a professional school counselor for the past 20 years here in Paulding County. Those years have included counseling students at the elementary level at both Hiram Elementary School and Allgood Elementary School in addition to the middle school level.
I was born in Winter Park, Florida, but I consider myself a Georgian since I was raised here since the age of 4 years old. I grew up in Cobb County, attending school at Murdock and Tritt Elementary Schools, Mabry Middle School, and graduating from Lassiter High School. I returned to Florida to continue my education at Florida State University (Go Noles!) where I got my Bachelor's Degree of Science in Child Development with a minor in Social Work. I received my Master's Degree of Education in School Counseling from Georgia State University and my Specialist's Degree of Education in School Counseling from The University of West Georgia. I am married to my husband, Calvin, and we have 2 children...Chandler who is in the work field and Josie who will continuing to attend Kennesaw State University in the Fall 2023. Our family loves to watch/attend college football games, travel in & outside of the USA as a family, and cruise during school breaks.
